A drone survey firm covering Bridgwater

An hour up the M5, a low lying industrial town where wind crosses the Levels unbroken and a visit is a planned day rather than a call out.

An hour up the motorway, and planned as such

Bridgwater is the outer limit of the northern corridor, roughly an hour from the Exeter base on the M5. That is comfortably within normal coverage, but it is planned work rather than a drop in, and this site would rather say that plainly than list the town and let you find out.

In practice that means a date agreed in advance, travel inside the fixed price, and where there is more than one building, a single visit that covers all of them rather than several trips. For a landlord or agent with a portfolio in the Sedgemoor area, booking them as a set is what makes the economics work in your favour rather than ours.

Industrial stock, and a town growing fast

This is an industrial town with the building stock to match: profiled metal and single-ply over the trading estates, extensive Victorian brick terraces from the industrial period, a Georgian core around Castle Street, and very large post-war estates. Modern expansion linked to the Hinkley Point workforce has added a lot of new housing quickly, which brings its own steady stream of defects-period questions from owners inside a builder's warranty window.

The commercial side is where drone work earns its keep here. A large-footprint unit with a single-ply covering, roof-mounted plant and a run of parapet gutters is a building nobody inspects properly, because doing it on foot means a permit, an access plan and somebody walking a membrane they could damage. Flying it takes a morning and produces a record that can go straight into an asset file.

Flat, open and wet from more than one direction

The town sits on the tidal Parrett at the edge of the Somerset Levels, very low-lying and flat, with the Bristol Channel a short distance north-west. Wind comes across the Levels with nothing to break it, which is a real factor on the day: a still morning in Exeter is not evidence of a still morning here, and the forecast that matters is the local one.

The ground is wet and low, which matters for a survey in a way that is easy to miss. Damp reaching a building from below is a separate problem from damp reaching it from above, and an aerial survey only speaks to one of them. Where a finding suggests the issue is coming from the ground rather than the roof, the report says so rather than stretching what a camera on an aircraft can settle.

The docks and the older core

The dock area and the Georgian streets around Castle Street are a different job from the trading estates on the edge of town. Older brick terraces with parapet detailing, and dock buildings with long spans and open water alongside, both need a launch position chosen with more care than an open industrial yard.

Bridgwater Bay and the tidal Parrett also mean birdlife around parts of the town, so flights near the water are planned to keep clear rather than assumed to be unremarkable.

Behind the survey

What Bridgwater clients are actually buying

CAA registered

Registered with the Civil Aviation Authority as an operator, with an Operator ID and a Flyer ID held. Ask for the numbers and you will get them before the visit.

A2 Certificate of Competency

The pilot holds an A2 CofC, the certificate that allows flying closer to uninvolved people than the default. There is no GVC, and this site says so rather than leaving you to guess.

Insured with Coverdrone

Commercial operations are insured with Coverdrone. If your site or your managing agent needs a certificate on file, it goes over with the quote rather than after the flight.

Two aircraft, one pilot

A DJI Mavic 4 Pro with a 100 megapixel Hasselblad camera for detail, and a DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced with a 640 by 512 radiometric thermal camera. Sam Hembury flies both himself.
